Connecting People, One Street Parking at a Time
Parklets. You may have casually strolled by them before. Micro social/green spaces that temporarily occupy a parking spot or two. While some serve local businesses as an outdoor amenity, other parklets are a part of an experimental municipal program that offers locals the opportunity to create temporary spaces that encourage social interaction within neighborhoods. In 2010, San Francisco established such initiative: Pavement to Parks. If successful, many could become permanent features. Is this the future of placemaking in cities?
