This two-month research program at our Chicago office is open to UW-Milwaukee Architecture 2019 seniors and graduate students. Selected interns will produce a document of their research and will receive a $7,500 salary.
This summer’s research program will explore how people define “home” today. We will explore the science of human perception and emotional response. We will identify research that contributes to our understanding of home and the communities it represents.
Increasingly people are seeing where they live as a critically important part of their lives. It is more than just a home, it is an important part of their identity and the community experiences they value. It is far more than shelter, but can be a key to their family, leisure and work experience.
The Future of Home is the 6th consecutive year of research in collaboration with UW-Milwaukee, as an integral part of VDT’s commitment to research based design. By bridging practice and research, architectural design solutions are better informed, more resilient, and active rather than reactive. Previous subjects from past years include The Future of: Learning, Workplace, and Urban Living.
