As the Managing Director and founder of Media Objectives (M-O), an interdisciplinary design studio at Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, Joe Lawton oversees all aspects of the studio. His passion for creating holistic brand experiences, driven by research, became the foundation for M-O, which launched in 2012. Joe has led the team on some if it’s most prominent projects, including the development of five national flagship brands for CA Ventures, environmental branding for eBay’s offices in NYC and Seattle, the wayfinding system for SanDisk’s Headquarters, a donor recognition display at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as the Village of Mount Prospect Downtown Wayfinding Strategy.


In addition to his role with the Media Objectives studio, Joe leads VDTA’s overall marketing and communications strategy. Since joining the firm in 2010, he has successfully launched a new Website for the firm as well as managed multiple successful bids for new business opportunities and design awards.


Joe has a tireless commitment to the community. He currently serves as the Chicago Chapter Co-Chair for the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) and recently served as the Co-Chair for the organization’s Annual Conference which drew over a 1,000 members to Chicago in 2015. He also has served as the Graphic Editor of AIA Forward Journal in addition to a four year term as the Communications Manager for AIA Milwaukee.
