Since an early age, Arris has been fascinated with buildings and structures and how they came together. While in high school he was able to attend a vocational architectural drafting program and participate in the Michigan Industrial and Technology Education Society Competition. During his senior year he received 1st Place in the state, for a set of residential construction documents, and was also awarded the Grand Award for best architectural project within the competition at his grade level. This opportunity set a foundation for his education at Lawrence Technological University. While studying Arris’s interest in sustainable design peaked when he participated in the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon competition. His professional experience spans eights years with varied experience in custom single family residential, multifamily residential, and large and small scale commercial projects in the Chicago and Detroit area. Notable project experience includes project management of a 40,000 SF LEED Certified community center in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago; a window renovation and replacement of a historic building in the Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood; and a 15,000 SF high-end residence in the suburbs of Detroit.
