Vienna

The city appears to be the Paris of the East. Within the Ringstrasse, the buildings reflect the evolution of architecture from the Gothic to the Beaux Arts. The look and feel of the city was almost without exception done better elsewhere. Visit the main cathedral. It is dark and low - a hollow reflection of French Gothic architecture. The same can be said of the Baroque architecture of the city - the Italians did it better. Finally, the Beaux Arts Palaces of the Hapsburgs, completed by many architects of the court, are only good copies of French architecture of the same period.
